Best NY Post Headline. Like, Ever. (And now it's time to go away)

Nypost_2 I have no say as to what people do with their personal lives (though it's probably best not to use government phone lines in so doing).

And, so long as a person is of consenting age and it is entirely their own choice, I don't judge as to what a woman (or man) does with their body or what line of work they practice. I honestly don't care.

I do have a problem with hypocrites.

And I've a MUCH bigger problem with a man not immediately resigning so as to use his position as a bargaining chip to avoid prosecution while our city, state and, um, country have MUCH bigger problems to deal with.

The true scandal? It's not illicit sex. It's the sheer arrogance of this man.

Resign. Leave. Go on Oprah, go find your faith, go write your ego-stroking book. Just go away.

And let us move onto more important issues--we have an economy, an educational system and a healthcare crisis to fix. And far too many soldiers to bring home. Oh, and our FAA might be useless to boot.

But in true New York--and New York Post!--style, at least we can enjoy mocking your hypocrisy (I've been enjoying mocking you all day). You deserve it seven ways to Sunday.

Btw, Steve Woodruff has a terrific post on botched branding and trust right here.

UPDATE #1: Now that he's got time on his hands, Spitzer has asked to attend Blogger Social in NYC. As we've had to tell others, we're at capacity and thusly he's been waitlisted.

UPDATE #2: Having found out that Blogger Social is a full weekend fee--NOT paid by the hour--Spitzer has removed himself from the waitlist. (I also needed to explain what we mean by "Socializing" as he was a bit confused).

CK,

I agree that the man should resign. Immediately. It's the only honorable thing to do, in a situation where all other honor has been forfeited. There's a time to hold 'em - but this is the time to fold 'em. Like, yesterday.

@Steve: The media circus he's fueled while he 'negotiates his plea' is the major disgrace to me. That's not putting the state first (and I understood that was his oath). Our media and attention needs to focus on so many important matters. And I'm looking forward to hearing from our new Governor--can you imagine being inducted Governor during all this? I say it's a tremendous opportunity.

I get a kick out of this. It's not his actions that are driving him from office; it's the hubris and arrogance. His actions merely give his many, many enemies the opportunity to finally get him.

Let's face it, the US public doesn't care about such scandals -- we elected a guy to two terms in the White House who made Spitzer look like a choir boy and have elected members of Congress who have run prostitution rings from their homes -- and these have been lionized by their parties.

But he seemed to have alienated everyone. So it becomes a convenient excuse to become morally outraged ("I'm shocked... SHOCKED!... to find that gambling is taking place in this establishment..."). He's resigning the Gov'ship of NY, and will no doubt 10X his income next year in private practice. Go figure.

@Stephen: His arrogance has indeed left him alienated. I could care about his sex life and dealings, it's the arrogance of it all. The NYers I'm talking to don't care about the 'sex scandal' either, they just hate the hypocrisy. What we don't understand is why he had to leave the state to hire an escort (we have no lack of them in this great state, give back to your own, eh? ;-). And that this man had to pay by the hour, well, we're enjoying mocking him for that, too.

And yes, his future book and law firm will do quite well.

CK: Did you know that MTLB and I, along with a few other bloggers were on Twitter speculating on what the Post headline would be the next morning.

They did not disappoint.

My ultimate favorite though is still one from the WMD Saddam days when they ran a photo of the French and German ambassadors to the UN with weasel heads crudely photoshopped over their actual heads and a giant honking headline "WEASELS!"

There was something so mean-5th-graders-at-recess about it...

Oh, and the one with a picture of Paris, Britney and Lindsay Lohan with the headline "BIMBO SUMMIT" was pretty priceless too.

Here you go: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Axis_of_weasels

Post picture is on bottom right. They also ran one with headline that said "Weasels" and more of a close-up.

@Toad: David Reich LOVED the "Weasels" one, too. Bimbo Summit was cute. But "Ho No"...ah, the copy of greatness, I tell ya ;-). Yep, best headline in the 11 years since I've lived here.

I heart NY.

Great headline! Mine would have been: Arrogance Kills!

Don't you love it when the media covers/over hypes the media hype?

The media talks about the media's obsessive focus on the Spitzer Scandal.

The media obsesses over the media's obsession with Obama.

The media covers the media coverage of the pop culture coverage of the paparazzi coverage of Brittney Spears.

It's just getting rediculous. We've all heard the news, we've all read the news. After 2 days, I don't want to hear anything more about this episode. The guy was a man, a human, someone who made mistakes, and made a big one. He messed up, we're angry, it's been 48 hours, now I think they need to stop talking about it.
