Why yes, I bake homemade cookies for men who get naked for me (doesn't everybody?)
The things you learn, do and see through social media. I officially love Sean Howard...not love in the biblical sense but love in the naked sense--and definitely in the "don't ask what your community can do for you, ask what you can do for your community" sense.
For those who missed it--Sean Howard and his splendid team created a brave, bare-all video to promote the Age of Conversation (see vid below). Now my southern momma taught me a whole lot--not the least of which is that sugary, carbed-up cookies are a "ladylike" way to thank good people who do good things for good causes (proceeds from the Age of Conversation go to charity).
Actually pies are a good way to thank people too but they don't travel as well--though I should mention that Drew McLellan sent me not one but two pies earlier this year...but no, the deliveryman was not naked (apparently he didn't get Sean's memo).
So, when I witnessed the great lengths that Sean went to I needed to thank him so I sent him cookies--and that cutie got naked. Again (see pic above). It should not go without saying that Sean is one of those weird people who cannot eat chocolate so I sent his team chocolate-chip cookies and Sean some oatmeal raisin cookies.
Which just goes to prove that naked men are indeed high maintenance.
Here's the video of Sean's bare-all in case you missed it the first time (RSS readers go here)...and here's how you buy the Age of Conversation. Thanks again to Sean and his entire team for reminding me just how proud I am to be part of this brainy, ballsy community.
lol.
"just how proud I am to be part of this brainy, ballsy community."
no pun intended??? ;) ;)
You rock, CK. Can't wait till I get to come to NY again. This time I will be ready for a 5am drunken visit to an apple store!

Sean: Oh my, did I pun? But you missed the larger pun. (Just gave you a hint.) Enjoy them cookies, hopefully they got there in good shape. And mucho thanks to your team, too.

I don't know why Sean always appears so timid.
Posted by: Cam Beck | Tuesday, August 07, 2007 at 05:20 PM
@Cam: Have you MET him? He's just like he is on his blog (OK, he wore clothes) but he is one social butterfly and brave soul. He needs a (nude) talk-show or something.
Posted by: CK | Tuesday, August 07, 2007 at 08:53 PM
He mentioned something about going nekkid on the audio book of Age of Conversation, if we decide to do one.
Posted by: David Reich | Tuesday, August 07, 2007 at 10:57 PM
@Reich: What can I say? He's found his nude niche. Hey, it's for a good cause so he gets my support (I'm such a pushover).

First announced here: 2008 Age of Conversation pin-up calendar. 103 pages of semi-clothed authors. For charity you know...
Posted by: Lori Magno | Wednesday, August 08, 2007 at 12:32 AM
@Lori: Well if it's for charity, I'm posing with the prettiest blogger (of course I'm talking about Lori Magno). I mean if it's for charity we need to ensure we sell a lot of copies...so the strategy is key, no?
Posted by: CK | Wednesday, August 08, 2007 at 12:36 AM
HAH! CK, I'll submit my "highly Photoshopped" image for calendar purposes!
Posted by: Lori Magno | Wednesday, August 08, 2007 at 09:09 AM
CK,
No one wants to see me nekkid, but if it means a cookie package, I'm willing to show all. Welcome back. Hope you had a great time away.
Posted by: Lewis Green | Wednesday, August 08, 2007 at 09:37 AM
Heya Lewis: Thanks for the welcome back. I hear you cook a mean marinara (lasagna is really my signature dish but cookies mail easier). Time away was good but busy...I need a vacation from my vacation ;-).
Posted by: CK | Wednesday, August 08, 2007 at 10:44 AM
LOL @ Lori. I think you may be on to something... except I hope we are planning to use models/stand-ins. ;)

CK,
One of these days, if I can figure how, you will receive a container of my sauce. You will have to provide the pasta. But please don't use it in your lasagna, which needs to remain your very own. My sauce is best married to a big noodle, such as Rigatoni or a thick spaghetti, at least a number 10.
Serve it with my favoriate Sicilian wine, Colosi Rosa. And since the sauce is naturally sweet (hint of cherry), the wine should be young, a 2004 is perfect. Let it breathe in the bottle at room temperature for at least an hour and serve it no colder than 55 degrees.

I have got to find my way into a dinner with Lewis and CK.
I don't hurt for tasty food, but the culinary and wine pairing education I could get from the both of you would be priceless. :)

@Lew: I make a mean meatball, too--and due to a secret (handed down to me from a Sicilian friend) they're so darn tender that they need not pasta nor bread, just eat 'em right out of the pot. For those I cook another sauce and they take a whole day of slow simmering.
And a fine appetizer with buffalo mozarella and basil that has just the right zing (!) from balsamic vinegar. But you have to go to very fine shops to get the right mozarella (and actually, I find better mozarella up near you in Hartford than down here in the city).
That wine sounds as close to perfect as I've heard and your sauce sounds right for Rigatoni. I like a big 'ol Rigatoni noodle, spaghetti not so much.
Unless we're talking Scampi and then of course it's a very fine angel hair that has to be steamed just so.
But when I make my lasagna I make about 4 because my friends beg me to make some for them so I just make a day of it. And I learned that recipe from a woman who was married to an Italian but is not Italian but lived in Boston's North End. So it's kinda/sorta the same thing. That said, I've improved upon it during the last decade.
Can't wait for your sauce. I'm sure it's hearty.
@Cam: Perhaps Blogger Social '08 needs to integrate a potluck dinner.

Oh...and I make some really great southern dishes, too. Like Poppy Chicken. You'd be amazed at what I can do with chicken, ritz crackers, butter, poppy seeds and, of course, more butter. Tangy, gooey goodness.

OK, now I know how to get lots of comments at my blog -- talk about food and/or nudity. Or better yet, food and nudity together.
And when do I get to sample one your cookies, my pal ck? Do I have to get nekkid, like Sean?
Posted by: David Reich | Wednesday, August 08, 2007 at 02:10 PM
@Reich: Being local, you'd do better to sample my lasagna (and/or Lew's sauce). Now Sean did get nekkid for us...but he did it for the community (and to help charity). So, I tell ya what, when you hit your 100th post, I'll make you lasagna or cookies. Your choice. Cuz that fulfills my methodology of your doing something for the community (grace us with your smarts and wit).
It's absolutely fine if you want to write your 100th post in the nude--but then it would need to be a video blog.
Posted by: CK | Wednesday, August 08, 2007 at 02:16 PM
Okay. That's it! I see a dinner party in our future. We need a place convenient and big enough to host a party of, what, 10, 12? I have a large dining room but we are not convenient to you New Yorkers. Any ideas?
I will need to drive for this, as I will carry wine and sauce. maybe some Mozarella from Franklyn Avenue. So convenient parking nearby is a must. What do you think?
Posted by: Lewis Green | Wednesday, August 08, 2007 at 02:23 PM
@Lew: Convenient Parking is the toughie in the city. I love Franklin Avenue (!) and that's where I go to get the mozarella when I'm in Htfd.
Maybe at Reich's house--he's only right outside the city but you don't have to hit city traffic. And his house is beautiful (thanks for letting me invite everyone over David ;-).
But next week we launch blogger social so I'm hard at work on that party prep first. But this idea is indeed perfect...good thinking Lew.

If I happen to write my 100th post in the nude, I will be doing the community a BIG favor by NOT provding a video of it. And for my 100th, ck, I want lasagna AND cookies. And maybe a juicy hamburger too. with fries.
A gathering at my house would be cool, as long as no one is afraid of dogs. Loki is sweet, but as a big black Lab, he could appear scary to some.
Posted by: David Reich | Wednesday, August 08, 2007 at 05:25 PM
*whispers* Um, CK ... could I have your cookie recipe? Please???
Posted by: Connie Reece | Wednesday, August 08, 2007 at 08:55 PM
@Connie: My pleasure. I'll send it to you soon. The secret is that you have to cook them just right so they stay ooey-gooey.
@Reich: Your dog is far from Scary. Putty in my hand. And all anyone has to do is give him a treat. He's just an 85lb baby ;-). For your 100th you'll get cookies or lasagna. You get one. When you do more good stuff for the community you'll get more. Can't wait to party at your place soon.

NOW I understand why all the Age of Conversation authors are sending me photos of themselves au naturale.
I should have known you had something to do with it. Let's see...12 months in a year...103 authors...
