A Civilized City (Night #1 @ WOMMA)
Came into D.C. for WOMMA today (Monday). Being a New Yorker, I often forget just how civilized other cities are. My hotel room...classified as a "small room"...is the size of my apartment (really), when crossing the streets the stoplights show you how many seconds you have before the sign goes from walk to don't walk (fabulous!) and people move MUCH slower in Union Station than they do in Grand Central Terminal (not so fabulous).
People say "yes ma'am" instead of "yeah" which is quite charming. Oh, and nothing is taller than the Capitol so I get to see the sun. I lived in D.C. ten years ago and loved it--but the chaos that is NYC just fits me.
Had a fabulous time at the "Bipartisan Blogger Wonk" that Toby "the Diva" Bloomberg organized. That's she and me over there. Folks, she's beautiful, radiates kindness and warmth and is just an itty-bitty little thing (I'm like a GIANT next to her since I'm 5'10" in heels).
I met many WOMMA and Healthcare Blogging Summit. Having a lot of talks on ethics with my fellow bloggers and I'll report more over at The Fix after I chat up more people. Interesting stuff and people from all over. And I already met friends who I'll walk over to the conference with...so it's like I've got pals to hang with at my first day of school. Score!
I understand our master of ceremonies, Andy Sernovitz, has lost his voice so the keynote should be interesting. Alas, tomorrow (Tues.) has me at WOMMA Registration at 7am...uh, that's not too civilized.
Sounds like a pretty good start! Have fun this week!

The city may be civilized, but too often, it seems, the people who work there -- the politicians -- are not.

I wish I could be there and I really look forward to more stories over at the DF.
Toby really is great. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting her here in San Diego- passionate blogger for sure!
Have a great time... and stay away from the politicians; stay uncorrupted.
